Report on ADIHA participation at the AMHE-AMH Congress on Haiti

During the week of July 20th through the 27th, some 200 Haitian doctors plus over 400 family members and guests from many part of the world converged at Club Med in Haiti for their annual medical conference. Haiti was chosen as the site of the conference to focus on the medical needs of our homeland. This year's conference was organized by the New Jersey chapter of the AMHE headed by doctor Reynald Altema. The topic of this congress was "Preventive Medicine at the Dawn of the 2nd Millennium". During these 7 days, numerous subjects were presented covering all aspects of medicine and how they relate to Haiti's needs. Other activities included Workshops, Hospital visits etc. There was also a full social program to provide fun, relaxation and entertainment to the conferees and their families.

ADIHA was also a contributor at the congress. We were proud to be asked to participate in the congress by Doctor Reynald Altema, president of the NJ chapter. Our organization was represented by our vice president Fritzner Nau and by Jean Claude Elie. Fritzner Nau actually closed out the formal program on Saturday with a presentation on telecommunication titled "Medical Education by Teleconference". The main point of the presentation is how we can use today's technology in Haiti to educate, share and communicate medical information to various part of the country. It was a very appropriate topic that was well received by all in the audience. He answered many questions from the medical doctors in attendance, as the benefits of such a technical tool was very apparent.

In addition, ADIHA member Jean Claude Elie was given the task to develop the software program for registration of the guests. This program was developed to meet the specific needs of the medical association. He also provided computer systems hardware, installation, training and support during the whole week. His responsibilities were critical to the need to efficiently process hundred of registrations.

In conclusion it was a very productive week for the ADIHA. Our contribution was well recognized and appreciated. We hope that this type of working relationship will continue between the Engineering and the Medical communities.

In fact we have already been approached by Dr Mildred Olivier of the Chicago chapter about participating in next year's congress in Chicago.

Our congratulations to the ADIHA member Fritzner Nau and Jean Claude Elie

Also our Special thanks to:

  • AMHE president Dr Jean Talleyrand
  • AMHE NJ Chapter president Dr Reynald Altema
  • AMH(In Haiti) president Dr Claude Surena
